LIFE OF THE CONGREGATION – June 18, 2017

Ministerial Search

The search for a developmental minister continues but we currently have no potential candidates.

At this week’s meeting of the Board of Trustees, we agreed to initiate the search for a settled minister. When the application is submitted to the UUA, we will discontinue the search for a development minister. We also agreed to search for a contract or consulting minister (two terms for the same thing).

To enable the Ministerial Search Committee to focus on the selection of a settled minister, the Board has commissioned a sub-committee of the Board to conduct the search for a contract minister. This sub-committee is: Nickie Albert, Janet Fryman, and Bruce Holden.

We want your input on what we should be looking for in a contract minister and have scheduled a Town Hall style open forum for Thursday, June 29th in Ministers Hall. Dinner will be a 6pm and the open forum at 7pm. I hope we will see you there.

Chalice Lighters

The Board also agreed to participate in the UUA Chalice Lighters Program. This program is a nearly 30-year old program by which individuals and congregations help their neighbors cross significant thresholds. The Spring 2017 Chalice Lighter call for our Florida geographical area has been awarded to Community Unitarian Universalist Church of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Community Unitarian Universalist Church (CUUC) is a vibrant lay-led congregation with 39 members. Members are active in the congregation and in the wider community. CUUC seeks Chalice Lighter funding support for the purchase of their first building. This congregation has been meeting in rented space since their founding. As they celebrate their 20th anniversary, dreams of a place to call their own and to welcome the wider community are still alive and moving closer to reality.

Community Unitarian Universalist Church, the CUUC, has been presented with a rare opportunity to help them realize that dream. An individual - not a member of CUUC - has offered to match up to $15,000 raised. We will be holding a special collection in the next few weeks to enable our congregation to help CUUC meet their financial targets.

Gratitude

Thank you all for your support of the Board of Trustees and your active participation in the committees and activities. Please reach out if I can help in any way.

Paul G Ward

President, Board of Trustees
