Opening Words
Lighting the Chalice Flame (in unison): We light the chalice flame this morning for earth, our home. Earth abundant, source of what was before we were and will be after we are gone. As each cell proves our common destiny, may we know earth, our mother of old, as our friend: As we were bred of dust and stars, may we know her fate as ours. Blessed is our bond to earth, Blessed is our bond to all of life, Blessed is our bond to the source of life itself.
*Hymn #38 Morning Has Broken
Quiet Time/Meditation/Prayer
Offertory: Blue Boat Home orig. Welsh tune Hyfrodol, meaning cheerful, by Rowland Huw Prichard, 1844.
Affirmation (in unison) Love is the spirit of this congregation and service is its law. This is our great covenant: to dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in love and to help one another.
Reading: A Call to Stop and See by Amy Stauber
Sermon: Hell and High Water Larry Stauber
*Hymn: #163 For the Earth Forever Turning
Extinguishing the Chalice Flame (in unison)
We extinguish this flame, but not the light of truth, the warmth of community, or the fire of commitment. These we carry in our hearts until we are together again.
